GHQ Liasion Regiment "Phantom" was the brain child of two individuals Lieutenant-Colonel George Fredrick Hopkinson MC or "Hoppy" as he was better known and Wing Commander JM Fairweather, DFC of No.3 Air Mission, neither of these men would survive WW2, Wing Commander Fairweather was killed in the evacuation of Dunkirk the ship he was on Aboukir which was sunk by an E Boat torpedo, "Hoppy" was killed in 1943 whilst commanding the Glider Bourne brigade of the 1st Airborne Division as a Major General, he was killed by a sniper whilst touring the front lines at Massafra, outside Tarranto.

These men had the forsight to realise that every commander needed upto date communication and to make a known bomb line, a line separating the allied and axis armies allowing the Air force to attack the enemy whilst protecting allied forces.this ment sending men skilled in wireless communication in Patrols that can move between advanced units and reporting back to "Phantom" recieveng unit placed in a Division or Corps HQ that could then pass on messages to the commander in chiefs HQ. on May 10th 1940 Phantom was equiped in Guy Scout cars fitted with no9 and No11 Wireless sets, even though the War was not good for the Allies Phantom proved that  good vital information
